Note
The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum is a remarkable manuscript written by Éliphas Lévi, which was owned by Edward Maitland and Anna Kingsford after being acquired from Baron Spedalieri. In addition to a scholarly analysis of the XXII Tarot Trumps, the manuscript contained eight magnificent illustrations by Lévi himself. It was edited by W. Wynn Westcott (1848–1925), one of the founders of the Golden Dawn, known under the motto Frater Sapere Aude («Dare to know,» an expression borrowed from the Latin poet Horace). Westcott published numerous works on occultism and greatly contributed to the dissemination of esoteric knowledge. This edition reproduces Éliphas Lévi’s original 1896 illustrations in color, while also including the 22 Major Arcana from Oswald Wirth’s Book of Thoth (published in 1889). All images have been meticulously restored to ensure faithful, high-quality reproduction. It should be noted that this is not merely an iconographic collection, but rather an initiatory treatise designed to introduce the neophyte to the arcana of ceremonial magic through an in-depth study of the 22 Major Arcana and their occult significance. This work embodies the Sanctum Regnum—the «Kingdom of God»—as it manifests within the mind of the adept.
