"The commentaries did not endeavour to be neutral; they were clearly on the side of the Netherlandish rebels. Aitsinger, loyal to the Emperor and a Catholic, did not reprint the comments below the images. He had them covered by paper while printing so that they would not appear on the impression." (The new Hollstein Dutch & Flemish etchings, engravings and woordcuts, 1450-1700: Frans Hogenberg, broadsheets, text, p. vii). Handwritten text on lower margin explaining the event depicted.
