On the reverse, the drawing is identified as a preliminary design for sgraffito, a type of decorative plasterwork. The design was probably commissioned by the Liège publisher Auguste Bénard, with whom Rassenfosse collaborated at the time. Whether the design was executed in this form is not known, but an old photograph of Maison Bénard shows a similar sgraffito design by Rassenfosse on its façade. The drawing in KBR is also similar to Bénard's publisher's mark that appears on a poster issued by the Liège company in 1907.
